A few days in Milos, Greece
From the moment we arrived in Milos everything felt so calm and authentic, even though Milos is no longer a hidden gem. Think of whitewashed villages, crystal-clear turquoise water, colorful fishing houses, incredible greek food and some of the most unique beaches you’ll ever see. It didn't take long for Milos to become one of our favorite Greek islands. If you're planning a trip, here's exactly how we spent our time and why we'd recommend every single stop.
Milos in a nutshell
Best time to visit – May to September for warm weather, long beach days and perfect swimming conditions. May, June and September are ideal for fewer crowds.
Where to stay – A traditional boathouse (syrma) in Firopotamos for a unique experience with direct sea access. Alternatively, stay in Plaka or Pollonia for charming boutique hotels, luxury stays are: Eréma Milos, White Pebble Suites, Domes White Coast Milos, Milos Cove
How many days – 4–5 days to explore the island at a relaxed pace. We spent 3 full days in Milos which are also enough for the main highlights

Where to stay
If there's one thing we'd tell anyone visiting Milos, it's to stay in one of the island's traditional syrmas or fisherman’s houses. Places like this can be easily found on Airbnb. We stayed in a beautifully restored old fisherman’s house right on the water in Firopotamos. Waking up to the sound of the waves every morning, opening the door and stepping straight to the sea felt simply unique. We spent mornings swimming before breakfast and days reading on our balcony with the sound of the mediterranean just next to us.
If you’re more looking for a hotel, Milos also offers a few outstanding places to stay such as Domes White Coast Milos, Eréma Milos, White Pebble Suites or Milos Cove. Additionally, there are various boutique stays or luxury apartments mostly around Adamas or on the coast, such as Captain Zeppos, Milos Breeze Boutiue Hotel, Solus Milos and Skinopi Lodge.
If you’re searching for a vibrant area to stay, with amazing views and already plenty of dining options around you, I would absolutely recommend staying in Plaka. It was one of our favourite villages in Milos and we’ve been there nearly every evening for dinner and the amazing sunset atmosphere.
Best things to see & do
Milos is an island full of hidden gems, unique landscapes and charming villages waiting to be explored. From surreal beaches and colorful fishing villages to picturesque streets and unforgettable sunsets the island offers a perfect mix of nature, culture and authentic Greek island life.
Sarakiniko Beach – Milos’ most iconic beach, famous for its white volcanic rocks, turquoise water and moon-like landscape.
Firopotamos – Swim in the crystal-clear bay, admire the colorful traditional boathouses and enjoy the peaceful charm of this beautiful fishing village. Staying here feels like experiencing the authentic side of Milos.
Klima – Explore the iconic colorful fishermen’s houses built directly by the sea. The small village is especially magical during sunset when the sky turns orange and the atmosphere gets truly romantic.
Plaka – Narrow streets, charming boutiques and one of the island’s most beautiful sunset spots. The traditional whitewashed houses and relaxed vibe make Plaka the perfect place for a slow afternoon, dinner or evening stroll.
Pollonia – With its laid-back atmosphere and waterfront restaurants, Pollonia is the perfect place to end a day of exploring. You can also reach Kimolos from here.
Mandrakia – A charming fishing village known for its colorful syrmata built directly into the rocks by the sea.
Firiplaka Beach – The dramatic landscape and calm turquoise sea make this beach one of the islands most favorite ones.
Kimolos day trip – The nearby island, around 20 minutes by ferry from Pollonia, which offers traditional villages and quiet beaches in a even calmer atmosphere.
Where to go for dinner
Food is always one of our favorite parts of traveling and Milos absolutely delivered. You must know that greek cuisine is one of my favourite and I could eat Tsatsiki, Greek salad and baked feta for breakfast, lunch and dinner. So here are our favorite places to eat in Milos.
O Hamos – If there's one restaurant you absolutely shouldn't miss, it's O Hamos. This taverna serves some of the best traditional Greek food we've ever had. Everything feels homemade, incredibly fresh and full of flavor. It's popular for good reason, so expect a bit of a wait, but trust us, it's worth every minute.
Avli Milos – Hidden among the charming streets of Plaka, Avli Milos absolutely surprised us. With the cute courtyard, relaxed atmosphere and delicious Greek dishes it is exactly the kind of restaurant you hope to stumble upon while traveling.
Utopia Café – For sunset, Utopia Café is hard to beat. Grab a drink and watch the sun slowly disappear behind the Aegean.
Yialos – A beautiful waterfront restaurant. Make sure to absolutely order the baked feta with honey and sesame here.
Medusa – Known for the best octopus on the island, this restaurant in Mandrakia is absolutely worth a visit.
Astakas – Defintely one of the best sunset dinner spots you will find on Milos, with views of the stunning fishing village Klima and the sea right next to your table.
How to get around
Renting a car or ATV is by far the best way to explore Milos. Many of the island's most beautiful beaches and hidden villages are spread across the island and are easiest to reach with your own vehicle. The roads are easy to navigate and having the freedom to explore at your own pace makes everything easier. There are also public busses connecting the main villages and beaches with Adamas.
During high season, popular beaches and fishing villages on Milos can get quite busy and parking spaces tend to fill up quickly. Especially at places like Sarakiniko, Firopotamos, Klima and Mandrakia it’s best to arrive early in the morning or later in the afternoon before sunset to avoid the biggest crowds and reduce waiting times. If you visit during peak summer months, be prepared for some extra time finding a parking spot, but the beautiful views and island atmosphere are definitely worth it.
To sum up, Milos has everything we love about Greece: incredible beaches, authentic villages, fantastic food and breathtaking scenery. If you're looking for a Greek island that feels authentic, relaxed and effortlessly beautiful, Milos deserves a spot at the very top of your list.
